"Becoming German" by Joanne Moar

This workshop will be held at Deering High School on Saturday, November 3 from 10am-3pm. Joanne is a native of New Zealand, who has lived in Germany for many years, and will guide workshop participants to think about how childhood memories shape who we become and invites them to donate memories to or borrow them from a database to explore issues of cultural identity, memory, and appropriation.

Thanks to generous support from the Goethe Institut in Boston, this workshop is free to members of the Maine AATG. If you want to attend, RSVP to Marlies Reppenhagen at reppem@portlandschools.org or Gisela Hoecherl-Alden at Gisela_Hoecherl_Alden@umit.maine.edu by October 26.

Immersion Weekend Camp Out in Albion

As a Service Learning Project organized by University of Maine German students, six college students camped out with fifteen German students from Cony High School to spend the weekend immersed in German.

The weekend was made possible by a generous Active Learning Grant from the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Maine, which was awarded to Gisela Hoecherl-Alden and Deborah Orth. Click here for photos of the event.
